“I thought this was a fun workout.”
“I definitely remember this being more fun last year.”
Christmas came early this year … with a vengence. Over 50 people hit this workout Saturday morning so it required a lot of planning given the amount of gear, the movement between it, etc. In other words (as Dave put it) “utter chaos”. Thanks to everyone for booking times. It allowed us to make this run very smoothly notwithstanding that this workout can last 30 to 45 minutes depending on weight chosen, technique etc.
The WOD was:
1 Deadlift (guys: 275#; girls: 185#)
2 Ball slams (guys: 20#; girls: 16#)
3 Ring dips
4 Pull-ups
5 Knees-to-Elbows (maybe Toes to Bar?)
6 Box jumps (20″)
7 Clean and jerks (guys: 95#; girls: 65#)
8 Kettlebell swings (guys: 24kg; girls: 16kg)
9 Double-unders
10 Burpees
11 Sit-ups
12 Wall ball shots (guys: 20#; girls: 14#)
The first few rounds were great … up until about the clean jerks. Then it got ugly … like lump of coal ugly.
Thanks to everyone who helped on the set up the night before (Tracy, Bish, Dixon, Kyle, Amanda, Joey, Sarah, Tim) and during the workout. Special mention to Tracy for having to work three stop watches and still having to do some fairly complex math as new heats were added. Of course, I would be extremely remiss if I didn’t thank Bish for the signage – while we did tease you for making them, they were very helpful guides during that workout.
The Teens group hit a variation of this with a “chipper” style rep scheme doing 12 reps of each exercise making for a total of 144 reps. I don’t have their times but they did hit it hard. Jeff was disappointed he didn’t get a chance to do the full one.

Just a reminder, party at our house next Saturday, December 19 from 8pm until closing!! Address is at the gym.
This is a workout I do not look forward to! It is a high energy coaching/traffic cop WOD (thanks to Tracy, Bish, Anne, Mike, Kyle, Amanda, Sarah, Tim, Dixon and lots of others who helped during before and after), but even more so the feeling those last couple of rounds. The Filthy Fifty you never have to see an element after you through it, but with this one you see it again, and again, and again! Looking down into that bucket afterwards is part of the memory of this one every year too. Wonder what it would be like after egg nog?
A fun one indeed! But one I much prefer helping with (even if it does require math) than actually doing. This WOD felt like an eternity! And the egg nog comment just makes me shudder lol!
Great to see so many out at the gym hitting this workout hard. Big difference from last year – there was probably more like 20 of us, and only enough weight to have 2 mens and womens options on the deadlift bars! It’s really cool to see the community growing so much in just one year.
Tracy you are so right with your comments on seeing the community grow. Last year Carol and I were the ‘newbie’s’ doing 12 Days and before you say it Bish I know, I still look like a newbie, but feel a part of the community. Community sounds so much better then ‘cult’.
Thank you Dave for your patience, Bish and Mike for correcting me so many times, it is appreciated (can’t believe I said that) and Tracy, Anne, Kyle, Amanda, Sarah, Tim, Dixon and all who were so encouraging during the 12 days of hell. Sorry heaven.
Keith, Scott and Greg I hope you guys got thought this workout without me in your group to explain it to you, went at 8:00 AM while you were still sleeping.
Looking forward to trashing Alexander’s house on Saturday night. Stewart thinks we should trash the house across the street from them instead of his. Bring chainsaws.
A big change of subject: put this in – CrossFit PEI Polar Swim New Years Day, organized by Jason L.
Lots of thanks to Dave and Mike and others for setting this up, walking us through it, and tearing it down.
It looked a lot shorter on the videos! God I hate double unders.
Thanks again guys! Tom
Gary, you are tooooo funny!! Yes, across the street lies a fellow crossfitter……
Don’t worry about Alexander counting the shots for time; he will be spending the night with grammy!
Not sure why we missed this last year; either a basketball tourney or vacation. A tough WOD but not as bad as last Saturday..
WOW is all I can say! An awesome workout that I must admit I did enjoy. And another WOW for all those who set up, coached, planned and supported us…and two special thank yous- one to those who helped me into the bands for pull ups and another to Tracy who helped me back up after a wipe out on the box jumps! Everything was well organized and the signs helped!! My daughter who was there watching, and as always couldn’t wait for Alexander to show up!, asked why it was only 12 days of Christmas and not 25 for the 25th of December…ARGHH that would have been!
If we added a few more days, we could do wall balls more than once!
I’m down with the Polar Bear Swim on New Years Day…for now anyways.
I wish I could have been there for the workout this year. I too remember this one being lots of fun last year, although calling any CrossFit workout “fun” seems a bit odd.
I’m with you Gary, but let’s not trash the whole house. Let’s just do Alexander’s room.
Gary we certainly missed you giving us support and instructions but we were lucky to have Bish ( yes, hit the line for the wallballs)Dave (elbows up, watch the low back, Mike (full extension on the dips), and all the other key supporters! The double unders, burpees and wall balls were killers…This Christmas season I dream of all the reminders I am given during our WOD’s…elbows up, low back curve etc…I am sure my wife is convinced that I am in a cult…I mean communnity…Thank you to ALL who shout words of encouragement when I am going through the enjoyment of muscle development:)
